J&K textbooks open new chapter on reorganization law

THE JAMMU and Kashmir Board of School Education has, in the program of the new session, included an additional chapter on the reorganization law J&K, 2019. The social science textbooks for grades VI to X contain chapters on the law which revoked the special status of Jammu and Kashmir and split the state into two Union territories.

“We have added an additional chapter on the J&K Reorganization Act in the manuals for the new session. This is part of the annual manual update, ”said Board Chair Veena Pandita. “Almost 20 titles have been updated this year.

In the class VII social science textbook, photos of Lieutenant Governor J&K Girish Chandra Murmu and Ladakh Lieutenant Governor RK Mathur have been included while explaining the administrative structure of UT.

For class X, the manual contains information about the “special status” and explains the provisions of the new law. “On the basis of a resolution passed by both Houses of Parliament, the President issued an ordinance on August 6 declaring that all clauses of Article 370, except clause (1), were inoperative, thus terminating the special rights and privileges of the permanent J&K. residents, excluding other citizens of India, more particularly with regard to the acquisition of real estate and appointment to services, ”the book states.

The chapter also details the provisions guaranteed to the former State under the instrument of accession and describes the guarantees provided under Article 35A.

The state council’s academic expert committee approved the textbook changes shortly after the president approved the reorganization law. Schools under the jurisdiction of the board have a session from November to December with a three-month winter break. The new books will be available to students at around 1,200 high schools from March.
